Children's Activities

This page covers both Kindergarten and Children's Activities

LA MAISON DES ENFANTS / KINDERGARTEN LA TANIA

Tel. 33 (0)4 79 22 26 26. The French run Kindergarten of La Tania will take children from 3 to 5yrs and from 6 to 10yrs, supervised by qualified and specialised youth leaders (who are often multi-lingual). Open everyday except on Saturdays and Sundays, the " Maison Des Enfants" offers a morning session from 9h00 to12h00 and an afternoon session from 15h00 to 18h30. There is also the option of childcare over the lunch period 12h30 to 15h00 on request.

COST ½ day: 1 session, morning or afternoon 7.50€ 1 day: 2 sessions, morning and afternoon 13.50€

5 Tickets for 5 sessions 57€
10 Tickets for 10 sessions 100€

These tickets can be bought at the MAEVA Reception, which is located just between the cinema and the Sherpa supermarket.

The Kindergarten staff ask that you pack a small bag for your child containing a drink, sun cream, a hat, sun glasses and for the afternoon session, a snack.

You will be able to pick up a week's plan at either the tourist office or the Maeva Reception. By doing this, you can more easily choose the sessions that your children will enjoy the most and so plan your adult and/or older children's activities accordingly.

Family Friendly rating: Over the years all our three children have really enjoyed their sessions in the "Maison Des Enfants". A few of their favourites were: the piscine picnic (at the swimming pool, playing lots of water games then having a snack at the pool side); fabrication jeu des couleurs (arts and crafts, making things to play with-a good one if the weather is not so good) and jeux sportifs (lots of different team games). This flexibility to be able to pick out which sessions you want is a real plus, but remember you will need to reserve your chosen sessions in advance to be certain of a place.

Remember: very often there are other children in the crèche who are also English, or German or Dutch. From our own experience with our 3 children, language is never a big barrier between children when they are playing and having fun, and the younger the better.

Finally, for the very young (under 3yrs) you will find a list of baby sitters at the tourist office Tel: 33 (0)4 79 08 40 40

CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES IN LA TANIA

1. Tania tourist office
organizes events all through the summer. There are many different sports contests and tournaments, including activities such as: comic strips, photography, drawing, flower bouquets, obstacle courses and many more. You can pick up a leaflet showing all the activities available during your particular week at the tourist office. Tel: 33 (0)4 79 08 40 40. Most of these activities are free of charge and just involve the children turning up outside the tourist office at the required time. If the village is very busy, it may be worth asking if you need to book a particular activity in advance.

Family Friendly can personally recommend theses activities as good fun for the children; all our children have joined in with the activities offered in the past.

2. Parcourse Aventure / climbing adventure
This activity is great fun and involves the children climbing up rope ladders and traversing across from one tree to another via monkey bridges and rope swings. Tel: 33 (0)4 79 08 39 58. You can just turn up on site, which is at the top of the La Tania nursery slope, next to the tennis court and level with chalet Nid Alpin.

Age: From 6years

Price: 8€ for 1hour trip

What's Included: All the necessary safety/climbing equipment, such as helmet, climbing harness and carabiners.

What you Need: Suitable footwear such as trainers and comfy clothing, shorts or tracksuit bottoms.

Family Friendly can recommend this as great fun, our kids loved it.

3. Roller Blading
Children can use the pedestrian resort centre to practise their favourite sport, while you sit and soak up the rays with a nice cool beer in the Ski Lodge.

Blade Hire: You can hire your roller blades and protections from most sports equipment shops in the village. We have included the prices for Ski Wave in this file.

Family Friendly Rating: Our kids love roller blading and you couldn't find a more safe and fun place to have a go. We can also recommend the relaxing with a beer, naturally at the same time watching the children having fun.

4. Grass Scooters
Children can have great fun coming down the gentle slopes of La Tania on these really cool and very stable mountain scooters. See the equipment hire page for equipment hire prices. There are scooters for nearly all ages, as the very younger ones can just stay scootering around the village on a very small scooter, or even better still perhaps you have brought your own.

5. Trampoline
You will find this outside the Ski Wave shop; it is open the same hours as the shop and you pay in the shop. Always a hit with the little ones and it helps expend a little more of that energy they all seem to have in full supply.

6. Playgrounds
Your children can choose between the many open air play grounds such as a tennis court, volley ball, boules area, see saw and slides, multisports area and ping pong tables.

For the Tennis you can reserve a slot at the tourist office, where you will also find bats and balls available for the table tennis. Tennis racquets and balls can be hired from Ski Wave.

7. Swimming Pool
Adults and children alike can enjoy this heated pool in La Tania. You can admire the beautiful landscape in the water or soaking up the rays on the tiled area around the pool. The entrance to the swimming pool is next to the crèche, where you would go to pay for ski school in the winter. Cost: Adults 4€ Children (4 - 14yrs) 3€ Under 4 yrs Free

The pool is open everyday, weather permitting from 11h15 to 17h45 and there is always a lifeguard on duty.

Two other pools in the area are definitely worth a visit. The first is in Meribel and is situated next to the ice rink. There is a great slide for the little kids and of course us big kids, not forgetting its warm Jacuzzi. This pool offers a mixture of in and outdoor bathing on hot days or just indoor on cooler days. Secondly, Courchevel 1550 also has a large heated pool which offers both in and outdoor bathing and plenty of nice soft grassy areas for sunbathing or playing beach games. You can find this pool just opposite the tennis court and carting area on the main route to 1650. I'm sure you will all have seen it in the winter. Also available to the side of the pool is archery if you or the kids fancy being Robin Hood for half an hour.

8. Pony / horse riding
You will find this on the left if you take the main road from La Tania to Le Praz, on the last bend just before you reach the ski jump.

For the Pony rides you can just turn up and off you go, usually this involves you leading the Pony your child is on round a circuit. If you are not comfortable with this, you can always ask one of the stable girls/boys to do it for you.

For the more advanced horse treks you can also jut turn up, but if you want to go for a half day or full day it is better to reserve in advance and arrive about 15mins early to help get your horse ready etc. See prices below. It's always preferable to wear long pants and suitable footwear, such as trainers or hiking/riding boots.
