Walking

This is one of the less expensive activities to do in the Alps. You can choose to walk door to door from the chalet, or drive or walk up to a telecabine and catch a free ride down. Alternatively, you can catch the bubble up and walk down.

There are several good walks listed on the map attached but not all of these are suitable for families with smaller children.

Here are some of the walks we have done with children with not too much moaning.

La Tania to Le Praz (1h30 mins one way, 5Km) Chemin Des Chevreuils BLUE rating

A walk that Family Friendly can personally recommend, we would advise a back carrier for the very little ones and not a buggy.

Cross the road by the telecabine station and you will see a path into the forest just after the last house and side road. There is usually a stream running next to it. Stay on the path and follow the general direction of Le Praz. The path drops down below the road level and pops up again near the near the pony centre. Here you can cross over the road and continue to follow the same safe path away from the road, this will bring you out next to the Tremplin (ski jump) in Le Praz. See path No.12 on map.

La Tania to La Nouva (1h00 2.5Km one way) Chemin De La Chappelle BLUE rating

Another walk that Family Friendly can personally recommend, we would advise back carriers for the little ones, not buggies.

To start this walk you need to walk down to the join the main road through La Tania. Then walk down the steps next to the estate agents where you will see the sign, walk down hill bringing you out in the tiny but quaint village of La Nouva. From there you can return by the same way, although this is more difficult as it is now all up hill, or you could follow the mountain road towards Le Freney and then up to Le Praz. This is a much longer way round and would probably take at least 2 hours or more. See path 13 on the map.

Bouc Blanc to La Tania (2.30 mins) BLUE/RED rating

Another walk that Family Friendly can personally recommend, we advise back carriers for little ones and not buggies.

Take the bubble up and follow the mountain bike trail back to town, it is all down hill so fewer complaints. The trail starts off on the red run, and then you follow right under the bubble just by a little refuge hut. Carry on to the start of the Bouc Blanc draglift then cross the piste Folyeres and continue until you pass 2 small refuge huts. Soon after you see a sign for La Tania to the right, take that and you end up behind the apartments above the Ski Lodge.

Le Chemin Des Teppes (1h30 5Km) BLUE rating

Another walk that Family Friendly can personally recommend and suitable for all the family, obviously we recommend suitable back carriers or the all terrain buggies for the very young.

To Start this gentle trail leave La Tania village by the steps just in front of the Ski Lodge and follow the path that winds up towards the Saboia apartments. To the right of the apartment block you will see a path which climbs up a little (part of the cross country ski routes in the winter) take this path and at the junction you turn right and follow the path marked Les Teppes. When you arrive at Les Teppes you will find a lovely place to relax and a perfect picnic stop with tables and barbecues. There is also an excellent view of the "Grand Bec".

Col de la Loze (Easy walk) GREEN rating

Take Chenus the bubble then follow the Col de la Loze trail to the Roc Tania restaurant, which is open everyday through the summer for lunches. Or of course you can take your own lunch and picnic at one of the tables provided. You can return the same way and carry on towards Courchevel 1850.

The Discovery Walk on the Loze (1h30 all down hill) GREEN rating

From the top of the Chenus Telecabine follow the well-marked gentle descent to Courchevel 1850m. This is a walk suitable for all the family.

Saulire

- Definitely worth a trip to the top (RED rating from top to GREEN from bottom of Vizelle)

Family Friendly can personally recommend a trip right to the top of Saulire via first the Verdons then the Vizelle. It's great to see where you normally ski and there is plenty of wild life to look out for, in particular the marmotte. Look carefully as they are very good at blending in with their surroundings, in my experience it's usually the children who spot them the first.

From the top of Vizelle it's a 20min walk uphill (not too steep), to the Pierre Platte restaurant, which is open all summer. It has fantastic views and is a great spot for lunch or a picnic, but remember to take warm tops as it can be quite a bit cooler at this altitude, nearly 3000m. I remember when we were there, there was still a fair amount of snow still around which the children naturally wanted to play in, be prepared with a towel and warm tops. After lunch it is probably best if the smaller children go down on the Vizelle telecabine, but for the more athletic in the group why not walk the whole way. I have done this personally with my children, but to be honest the most picturesque and easier part of the walk is the lower section i.e. from the bottom of Vizelle to 1850m.

Chenus to 1850m (1h00 gentle down hill walk ) GREEN rating

From the top of the Chenus telecabine take the time to stop and watch the cyclists in action, as they speed down the mountain bike race piste, which runs very steeply almost underneath the telecabine. Follow the clearly marked gentle path down to 1850, which takes you down parts of the Verdons. Please stay on the marked paths, as the Verdons is one of the main greens of the golf course. You also pass by the lake at the side of Verdons, usually all frozen over in the winter but now in the summer a great place to stop and picnic. WALKING continued

Lac Rosiere

Another trip that Family Friendly can personally recommend for a great day out for all the family.

Drive up to 1650 and turn left at the first roundabout by the garage, continue winding upward towards Les Avals and Lac Rosiere. You can park here and you will find plenty of picnic tables. If you just want to let the children run free and play in the crystal clear river and small lake however, I must warn you although many do bathe in this lake it is very cold. For a nice family walk you can follow the easy routes along the river or across the river and around the lake. If you walk up the river you will reach a beautiful waterfall definitely worth a photo stop. For the adventurous you can descend to Le Praz through the trees, a long downhill walk taking around 1hr30 mins. Someone will need to drive down though and perhaps arrange to meet up again at the Hotel Peuplier for a well-earned summer beer.

Tour of Le Praz

Simply follow the cross-country trails of Le Praz in a circular tour of the village. Start by the Lake turning left. Example: Mateigena Loop (1h00) GREEN rating

Starting at the Le Praz Lake, take the path above the forest house (red shutters) to the start of the forest. Climb to the left to return to flat ground in the clearings towards a laid out rest area (water basins).
